TUDOR CANADIAN NAVY MILSUB REF. 79090
We are delighted to offer you, on behalf of Mr Tudor and B&S Executive Editor Ross Povey, this amazing Tudor MilSub issued by the Canadian Navy. Over the last few years we have seen a huge surge in the popularity of Tudor watches generally and in particular the military issued Submariners. What is so exciting about Tudors is the research and discovery of new examples of issued pieces. Whilst there is now good documented research on the French and South African Tudor military watches, the research on the Canadian pieces is still ongoing…but that’s half the fun!
This example is a reference 79090, which were the last batch of Tudor Subs ordered by the Canadian Navy stores from Rolex Toronto. This particular example is in lovely original condition, the bezel having changed to a cobalt (blue/black) shade. The hands and hour plots match nicely and have a lovely creamy patina, commensurate with the age of the watch. The caseback features the officer’s name ‘Petty Officer (PO) Cumberland. As is often seen on watches that have been sold by retired service men, the engraving has been partially removed, but is still very much evident. The icing on the cake, is the original black NATO strap, which has all the wabi you would expect from a military watch.
The Tudor reference 79090 was the last of the plexi glass Submariners from Tudor. Featuring the Rolex Triplock crown and so-called ‘Rolex’ caseback, the mercedes hands and bi-directional bezel give this watch an amazing vintage vibe. The 40mm case size is the classic full-size vintage Tudor Submariner size and is the cousin of the Rolex 1680 (in fact, the cases are identical).
Classic vintage styling with the heritage of being a MilSub make this watch a sure fire winner and the opportunity to own a piece of history.
