Rolex GMT-Master 16700 Pepsi Swiss Only Dial

The last of the GMTs…

This is a very cool GMT-Master reference 16700 that was actuall the last of the GMT-Masters before Rolex only offered the GMT-Master II. The 16700 replaced the 16750 in 1988 and featured a non-independent 24-hour hand. Interestingly, Rolex also offered the GMT-Master II at the same time, but the 16700 was a less expensive model and also had a thinner case.
This example dates to the last year of the 16700’s production run 1999 and has a so-called Swiss Only dial, denoting the use of luminova on the hour markers and hands. This watch remains in beautiful condition with a thick case and flawless dial. The Pepsi bezel is particularly cool, as the blue has stayed quite deep and rich, whilst the red has faded to a light pink hue.
The solid link Oyster bracelet, reference 78790 (with clasp stamped ‘X 9’ and 501b endlinks) remains in good, tight condition. The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
