The Inside Story

The Rare Four-Line Dial and 200 Bezel Auto Rolex Daytona

The Rolex Perpetual Daytona, launched in 1988 and powered by a modified Zenith movement, is enjoying a significant surge in demand from collectors. This example is particularly rare version with a four-line dial and early bezel with ‘UNITS PER HOUR’ located at three o’clock (it appears at one o’clock on later versions). This example is in very good and nice condition. The case remains thick with strong lugs and crown guards. The white dial is in mint condition and has only four lines of text in the upper half, an ‘inverted six’ in the hours totalizer and tritium-filled hour markers and hands. The rare early bezel is graduated up to 200 on the tachymeter and is therefore known to collectors as a ‘200 bezel’ – this one is in great condition. The original solid link Oyster bracelet, ref 78360, is in good condition with a clasp stamped ‘CL4’ and 503 endlinks. The 16520 was actually the watch that began the mythical Rolex Waiting List – read our article here! The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
