Jaeger le Coultre Deepsea Alarm Ref E857
The Rare European market tropical alarming dive watch…
We are pleased to offer an incredibly rare European version of the JLC Deepsea Alarm – the diver’s Memovox ! The watches were only produced for a few year years between 1959 and 1962 and the watch used the alarm function to tell the diver he needed to return to the surface.Only Around 1000 of these watches are been produced ; around 800 pieces for the American market ( with an all different dial ) and around 200 for the European market , so this is truely a rare beast !!
The word ‘Memovox’ was invented by Jaeger Le Coultre and is actually an amalgamation of two Latin words. Memor, which means remembering and Vox, which means voice. This watch is housed in a large size waterproof compressor case with two crowns – one to wind and set the watch and the other to set and wind the alarm. As with the whole watch, the dial is in beautiful original condition, with a dark brown outer rim and black inner rotating disc. The bezel is all original and in really good condition too. The whole watch has taken on a lovely warm patina and we love the big impact this big watch has- a really purpose build dive tool vibe !
The watch comes on our Nautic basket weave black rubber strap that resembles the vintage Tropic strap on which these watches were often worn. In 2011 Jlc made a re-issue of this watch – which was slightly bigger and ofcourse an updated movement, but in our opinion the vintage version has more charm !
The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
