Style Up - The Omega Speedmaster CK-2998
The past five years has witnessed a number of leading watch brands to consider their archives and celebrate past successes and glories through the launch of modern reinterpretations through heritage pieces. Baselworld 2016 was the platform for Omega to delight Speedmaster lovers with the new CK2998, which will be manufactured in a limited run of 2998 pieces
Grail Re-issue
The vintage Omega 2998 is a true grail watch for die-hard Speedy collectors and it is considered one of Omega’s most important chronographs. Released in 1959 with a plastic bezel and so-called alpha hands, it had a very short run for four years. The new version keeps the plastic bezel, lollipop seconds hand and alpha hands, but the watch has been given a slightly different flavour via its warm blue colour.
The watches are now available and have been a huge hit with collectors, which is understandable when you consider its classic lines and elegant proportions. Watches like this really do make the perfect crossover pieces – as vintage collectors find themselves facing ever increasing prices for their grails, these modern ‘reissues’ enable buyers to access a watch that could be out of their reach. Just think about what Tudor Heritage is doing…
Strapping Watch
Omega chose to make the CK2998 a leather strap only watch, the accompanying strap being navy blue croc leather with white edge stitching. Whilst many collectors will want to enjoy the watch on its OEM strap at B&S we are very passionate about styling your watch for different looks and emotions. The watch also looks great on an original Omega bracelets too if you want to opt for an all steel feel…
Elegant Leather
It looks beautiful on our ‘Saffiano’ and ‘Classy’ leather straps…
Rock ‘n Roll
Or why not try a more casual look with one of our ‘Rugged’ straps. The Distressed Denim looks particularly cool with the blue bezel and accents on the dial.
